Historical Note

The University of Wyoming is a land grant university in Laramie, Wyoming, founded in 1886. Construction of the first building, Old Main, began in 1886 and the university opened its doors to the first students in September 1887.

Wyoming Hall: Wyoming Hall’s construction was completed in 1951 and was located on the Northeast side of the University of Wyoming campus. It was first designed as a dormitory to help combat the influx of veterans seeking attendance after World War II. It was originally proposed as the dormitory for UW athletes, but its distance from the sports centers made it a less then popular choice for athletes. In 1959 it served as an overflow building after the construction of Hill and Crane Halls. In the early 1980s, Wyoming Hall became the home of the University’s ROTC program. Wyoming Hall has also housed many university offices, including UW Transit and UW Financial Services, until it was slated for demolition in 2019 to build a new residence hall. Wyoming Hall was demolished in 2021.
