Historical Background

The Gallant Maid was a purse seiner fishing boat built in 1950 and launched in Seattle, Washington. It was owned by Don Hansen of Seattle. It was 56' x 16'8" x 7'11" in size and had a Caterpillar Diesel D364 Marine Engine. The Gallant Maid was constructed shortly before the advent of the Puretic power block (mechanized wench), which became a standard feature of purse seiners and dramatically changed the seine fishing industry.
