Biographical Note

C. Larry Roberts was a Utah independent filmmaker. During the late 1970s, Mr. Roberts was a producer with "EXTRA," the news magazine which ran on Salt Lake television station KUTV.

Mr. Roberts taught in the film department of the University of California, Santa Cruz; California Institute of the Arts; and San Francisco State University. He was an artist-in-residence at the Utah Media Arts Center.

At the time of his death he was preparing to make a feature movie about Everett Ruess, a young artist who disappeared near Escalante, Utah, in 1934. Mr. Roberts, along with colleague Diane Orr, received a Guggenheim Fellowship to produce the film. He was also working on a personal film, "The Divine Abyss." Mr. Roberts' "SL-1," also a collaboration with Orr, won the Josef von Sternberg Prize at the International Film Week festival in Mannheim, Germany. The documentary recounts an accident in 1961 at the military nuclear reactor in Idaho. It was aired on New York's public-television station, WNET.

C. Larry Roberts passed away in 1988.
