Historical Note

Louis Crawford Raymond (1906-1994) was a mining engineer and archeologist. He graduated from the School of Mines at what is now Oregon State University in 1930. Raymond traveled extensively during his career as a mining engineer and collected a vast number of items from these travels. He was also a self-taught artist and drew landscapes of the places to which his job took him.

Collection contains agreements between unions and mine owners; an article by Raymond titled “Decline and Fall of Economic Development”; correspondence; a book titled Mining and Arts; booklets on mining, products, economics, and other subjects; flow sheets; foreign mines material; manuscripts and articles by Raymond on mining and investment; maps; mining acts; photographs of mines and landmarks; reports; and miscellaneous pamphlets and artifacts.
