Historical Note
"Pillars of Portland" was a column by Larry Colton that ran in the Willamette Week in the early 1980s. The column told about the lives of fictional characters such as Wes Hills and Laaka Sweego, who represented stereotypes of neighborhoods in the Portland, Oregon, metropolitan area. In 1983, a pilot for a proposed weekly television series based on the column was filmed, with Tom Chamberlin directing. The pilot aired on KOIN 6 on December 14, 1983. However, it received negative reviews, and the planned weekly series was never made.
