Historical Note

E. Deane Hunton graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in mining engineering and attended Harvard College. He worked as First Chair of the University of Wyoming's Department of Commerce and was later named dean when the department became a college. He was married to Einna Eggleston Hunton, and they had one adopted daughter, Jean Hunton. During World War I, E. Deane Hunton was asked to serve as a special expert on the United States Shipping Board, assigned to the Division of Planning and Statistics, the War Industry Board, and the War Trade Board.

Content Description

The collection contains photographs and various manuscript and print materials relating to Hunton's travels, University of Wyoming coursework, and career as a University of Wyoming professor, including 13 scrapbooks relating to University of Wyoming activities (1902-1958). The collection also contains numerous artifacts relating to Hunton's childhood and university studies as well as several unlabeled Native American artifacts of unknown tribal affiliation. Also included are photographs of the John B. Kendrick family and of the operations of the Carbon Timber Company in Albany and Carbon Counties, Wyoming; and pharmacists' ledgers from Cordiner Drug Store in Laramie, Wyoming. Other photographs in the collection are of different petroleum oil fields around the states of Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah.
