Historical Note
Nina Swamidoss McConigley was a Wyoming author and professor of English at the University of Wyoming. She was born in Singapore to Irish and Indian parents and grew up in Casper, Wyoming. McConigley got her BA in literature form Saint Olaf College, an MFA in creative writing from the University of Houston, and an MA in English from the University of Wyoming. McConigley was the author of “Cowboys and East Indians” which won the PEN Open Book Award and a High Plains Book Award. She has won numerous writing awards and fellowships including the Wyoming Arts Council’s Frank Nelson Doubleday Memorial Writing Award, a finalist for the 2011 Flannery O’Connor Short Fiction Award, the 2019-2020 Water Jackson Bate Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard, and the 2022 Creative Writing Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). McConigley served on the board of the Wyoming Arts Council from 2014-2022 and taught creative writing and English at the University of Wyoming, Colorado State University, and the Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers.
