Historical Note

Seymour DeKoven (d. 1984) was a classical music radio personality and painter during the twentieth century. Born in New York City and raised in Chicago, Illinois, DeKoven was host of the classical music radio show "DeKoven Presents" between the 1950s and 1980s. Broadcast from WFUV Radio in New York City, DeKoven played classical music from the Baroque and Rococo eras on the show. Before becoming a radio personality, DeKoven was a painter who exhibited his work in the United States and Europe during the 1930s.

Content Description

Collection contains Seymour DeKoven's correspondence files, scripts for "DeKoven Presents", reel to reel audio tapes of "DeKoven Presents", and audio cassettes of "DeKoven Presents". Collection also contains photographs and photograph negatives (of DeKoven, his family, and some nude images), artwork created by DeKoven (consisting of drawings and paintings, most of them nudes), and unpublished manuscripts written by DeKoven. Collection also holds a large number of 33 1/3 rpm classical music records played by DeKoven on "DeKoven Presents". Clippings, miscellaneous sheet music, miscellaneous periodicals, miscellaneous printed materials, miscellaneous books, and a few artifacts are in this collection as well.
