Content Description
These letters were written by Raycide Mosher of Albion, Michigan between January 15, 1864 and August 18, 1865, and relate his experiences during the Civil War. There is one undated letter in 1864 and one unrelated Mosher family letter in 1889.
All of the letters have been transcribed and while not important historically, they are very interesting and provide insights into the everyday life of the common soldier.
Historical Note
Raycide Mosher was born in 1839 to Sarah (Sally) and Henry (Harry) Mosher. Mosher enlisted in company A, 1st Regiment of Michigan Engineers and Mechanics on December 14, 1863. He signed up for three years of service, and would live through the rest of the Civil War.
Mosher would separate from military service in September of 1865. At the same time, the 1st Regiment of Michigan Engineers and Mechanics would cease to be. Raycide Mosher died on November 29th, 1891 a Civil War Veteran.
