The collection contains a photo album dated January 1, 1918, which was a gift from Edith Schaefer to her mother. The additional photographs file contains landscapes and portraits. The correspondence is organized into incoming, outgoing, newsletters, and letters and memorabilia. The Chinese language materials include pamphlets and invitations. The publications are English language newsletters published in China for missionaries, and include the Foochow News, The China Colleges, and newspaper clippings. "Reminiscences of the China Experience" is a biographical sketch of Roland Schaefer's time in Kiukiang from 1914-1919 and Yenping from 1924-1927, as dictated to his wife Ruth B. Schaefer and edited by his daughter Ruth L. Schaefer. It includes hand drawn maps and handwritten notes. The Oversize material includes two maps of Kiangsi, China. One has a newsletter on the back and one has a hand-drawn map. Also included are oversize Chinese language materials including a newspaper and pictorial journal.
