Historical Note

Fred Thompson was a labor organizer and historian. He was a member of the Socialist Party of Canada during WWI before immigrating to the United States in 1922. Upon settling on the West Coast, Thompson joined the Industrial Workers of the World and would serve the organization for 65 years, including as one of its first historians.

Collection contains a book written by Thompson titled I. W. W.: Its First Fifty Years (1905-1955); 50 pamphlets on the Industrial Workers of the World strategies and a general strike, critiques of craft unionism, labor conflicts, and other similar topics.
