Historical Note

Robert Raymond Berg (1924-2006) was a geologist from St. Paul, Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and earned his PhD in geology in 1951. He came to Casper, Wyoming in 1954 to study the Wind River Mountains. He worked for the California Company (Chevron) and Cosden Petroleum throughout the 1950s and 1960s. He conducted seismic surveys and gravity surveys along the southwest flank of the Wind River Mountains. In 1967, Berg moved to College Station, Texas to work in the Geology Department at Texas A&M University (TAMU) where he served as a professor and then professor emeritus until his death in 2006.
