Historical Note
The First Regiment of Oregon Mounted Volunteers was called into service by order of Governor Curry in order to respond to perceived threats by indigenous peoples on settlers of the Oregon Territory. It was mustered into service with Orlando Humason as Captain, and quickly enrolled 10 companies of volunteers. Humason acted as the enrolling officer in Wasco county, organizing Company B out of the county seat in The Dalles. By order of the United States government, in 1861 they were recognized as regular troops, and awarded the same pay and allowances.
