Gladys B. Beery papers, 1868-2008

This series contains biographical files of early Laramie residents, historical figures of people in Albany County and surrounding areas including the Horse Creek area and Fort Fetterman. Much of the material relates to the personalities told in the book Sinners & Saints: tales of Old Laramie City. Also included, is a biographical file for Gladys Beery.

This series contains research material for Laramie-area houses and buildings. Much of the material relates to research for Beery’s newspaper column, “Historic Houses,” about Laramie house and building history. Some material relates to her research for the book, Front Streets of Laramie City. The folder titles relate to select home owners and occupiers over time.

Laramie-Area History and Research Files: This series contains general historical information, photographs, and maps, for Laramie and various other places in Albany County. Also included are research files related to conducting history on and writing about old houses. Numerous files relate to the Wyoming Territorial Prison and its becoming an historical site and theme park. Other files relate to various historical walking and auto tours of Laramie.

This series contains typed and hand-written manuscripts of Beery’s publications. Also included is publicity and correspondence related to her publications. Two of her published books also are included.

This series contains 18 audio-cassette tapes of oral history interviews that Beery conducted between 1979 and 1983. Topics include Laramie and Albany County history including Medicine Bow, Elk Mountain, Fort Sanders, Laramie house history, and early Laramie residents. Several tapes relate to a Western Writers of America Association conference held in Powell in 1981.
