Historical Note

Lola M. Homsher (1913–1986) was an American archivist, historian, and author known for her contributions to the preservation and interpretation of Wyoming's history. She earned a B.S. in Sociology and Economics from Colorado State University in 1936 and an M.A. in History from the University of Wyoming in 1948. Homsher began her archival career as the first University of Wyoming archivist from 1945 to 1951 before becoming the State Archivist, where she oversaw the Wyoming State Archives, the Historical Department, and the State Museum. During her career, she edited the Annals of Wyoming, authored the newspaper column “Wyoming – From the Archives,” and co-authored several historical publications, including South Pass, 1868, Guide to Wyoming Newspapers, and Ghost Towns of Wyoming with Mary Lou Pence.
