Included in the collection are miscellaneous Whitworth College History documents, correspondence to and from Soden, college publications, copies of Whitworthians, and research about Rev. Mark Matthews. Also included in the collection are oral history tapes from 1988-1993 as well as the camera ready plates for A Venture of Mind and Spirit, a book written by Soden.

Historical Note

Dr. Dale E. Soden came to Whitworth College in 1985 to teach in the History and Political Science Department. In addition to teaching, Soden was also involved in many other aspects of Whitworth such as serving as the director of the Weyerhaeuser Center for Christian Faith and Learning and working in the department of Academic Affairs.

Soden studied and wrote much about religion in the Pacific Northwest and also wrote the centennial history of Whitworth College, A Venture of Mind and Spirit. Soden also wrote a book about Reverend Mark Matthews, which was published in 2000.
