Historical Note

Gregory Ellis McKelvey was a geologist, specializing in minerals and mining. He received his B.A in Geology at the University of Montana in 1966 and M.S. in Geology at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1967. During the summers of 1961 to 1964 he worked as a field assistant for T.M. Cheney searching for and discovering phosphate deposits in Peru, industrial minerals in Greece, and metallic and industrial minerals in Nevada. Since 1965 McKelvey worked as a geologist for several mining companies, the United States Geological Survey, and as a mineral discovery consultant.
