Historical Note

ADL's major role is to combat anti-Semitism and to interpret and inform the public about Israel and the Middle East. During the period represented by these records, ADL not only combatted anti-Semitism but also promoted civil rights for blacks. The Pacific Northwest regional office was located in Portland until January 1956, when it was moved to Seattle.
