Historical Note

Mary McConnell Borah was born on October 17, 1870 in Eureka, California to former Idaho governor William McConnell and Louisa Brown McConnell. Mary McConnell married William Borah, future Idaho Senator, in 1895. She was an active member of multiple communities throughout her life including Moscow, Idaho, and Washington D.C.. She passed away on January 14, 1976 in Beaverton, Oregon at the age 105. She is buried at the Morris Hill Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.

Content Description

Two typed copies of Mary Borah's 1916 autobiography (203 leaves and 157 leaves), published in 1976. One copy is bound as a final publication draft, and the other loose leaf. Mary Perrine was Mary McConnell Borah's scribe during the writing process. "Elephants and Donkeys. Mary Borah, as told to Mary Perrine."
