Historical Note

Richard F. Fleck was professor of English at the University of Wyoming between the years 1965-1990, where he taught Native American literature among other subjects. He was the editor of the "Thoreau Journal Quarterly" from 1975-1977. Fleck authored numerous poems, articles, and books, including "Clearing of the Mist" (1979). He was a faculty member of the Teikyo Loretto Heights University in Denver, 1990-1993, and then served as Dean of Language, Arts, and Behavioral Sciences at the Community College of Denver, 1993-2001.

Content Description

The collection contains correspondence (1953-1995), typescripts, galley proofs, manuscripts relating to the American West, reprints of Fleck's articles, as well as poems by Anne Fleck from 1978. This collection also includes manuscripts and copies of "Clearing of the Mist" (1979), "Cottonwood Moon" (1979), and "Palms, Peaks, and Prairies" (1967). Also included is a 1975 copy of the "Thoreau Journal Quarterly" and a 1961 manuscript by C.G. Bell, "Again from the Dead". Photographs of mountain scenes are also included.
