Historical Note

The Climate Impacts Group (CIG) at the University of Washington is an interdisciplinary research team focused on identifying and managing climate risks founded in 1995. Known for producing impartial, actionable science, CIG helps communities across the Northwest understand the impacts of climate change, such as rising temperatures and sea levels. It supports climate resilience through programs like the Northwest Climate Adaptation Center and the Northwest Climate Resilience Collaborative, as well as hosting the Office of the Washington State Climatologist. CIG collaborates with government, non-profit, and community partners to co-produce knowledge that aids in preparing for a changing climate.
