Historical Note
Baughman Farms was originally owned by John and Ella (Williamson) Bowman in 1902. Their son, Robert, worked with his father in the farm’s operations and eventually became supervisor of 75,000 acres of Baughman land holdings in Colorado. Robert’s son, John Baughman II, also joined the business. In 1902 John Baughman II’s family moved to Plains Kansas where John and Don Edwards established a rail estate business. In 1910 they moved to Liberal, Kansas. After accumulating land in Oklahoma and extensive acreages in Kansas, Baughman began buying in eastern Colorado in 1916. Around 1942, he discontinued his real estate business and dedicated his attention to farming operations.
