Historical Note

Established in 1979, the WSU Foundation was created not as an object of philanthropy itself but, rather, as the preferred mechanism through which private support is raised and managed for the sole benefit of Washington State University. From its inception to 2024, the WSU Foundation has raised more than $3 billion in private commitments in support of programs and initiatives across Washington State University.

Administrative Information

Arrangement

Organized into 3 series, materials arranged in chronological order within each.

Acquisition Information

This material was transferred to WSU Libraries' MASC by WSU Foundation staff members over the course of four accessions. Steve Schnable and Christina Rockett transferred 6 linear feet of records from 1950-1982 on July 19, 1984, which was retained as UA1984-25. Jacki (last name unrecorded) transferred 5.5 linear feet (1983-1987) of records from on October 03, 1989, retained as UA1989-31. Georgia Kersh transferred 4 linear feet (1986-1988) on January 2nd, 1991, retained as UA1990-38. An unidentified individual transferred 1 linear foot (1989-1990) on October 01, 1992, retained as UA1992-36.

Processing Note

WSU student Steinar Goheen processed this collection in January - February 2025.

Separated Materials

When the first accession was transferred in 1984, the MASC received over 40 boxes of stationery, envelopes, financial records, and Chinooks. They met with the donors on 1987-07-31 to match the materials with existing retention schedules. The result of the meeting was that one third of the materials were dated stationery and discarded. Over one third were financial records that needed to be kept between two and seven years, and those were returned to the WSU Foundation. The remaining six boxes were retained as potentially archival.

Individual travel expenses, automatic donation congratulatory letters, and other personal information were discarded from the collection during the 2025 processing, reducing sixteen large boxes of materials to seven half boxes. A set of meeting recordings on audio cassette were discarded during this process, but two promotional cassettes were retained and moved to UPC 2017-04.
