Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Joe Heaney (AKA Joe Éinniú; Irish: Seosamh Ó hÉanaí) (1919 - 1984) was an Irish traditional (sean nós) singer from County Galway, Ireland. He spent most of his adult life abroad, living in England, Scotland and New York City, in the course of which he recorded hundreds of songs. A magnificent singer in both Gaelic and English, Heaney sings in sean-nos, the highly ornamented style of traditional Irish song.

This collection consists of performances in various settings, including classroom presentations to different age groups (elementary thru adult), a lecture/demonstration to the Seattle Storytellers Guild, and concerts at the Seabold Community Center and the 1981 Northwest Regional Ethnomusicology Conference; all recorded in the Seattle area.
Oxide shed noted on EC tapes 1/93; tapes baked before work tapes produced.
Total duration (11:37:51) taken from work tapes; doesn't include .19 or .20 EC durations (duplicate material of which no WT was made)

4/96 - 84-14.10 WT re-dubbed because beginning of ID #1 was missing (dubbed from DAT copy belonging to Joan Rabinowitz rather than archives ECs because sound quality was slightly better) (logsheet updated 5/7/96)
