Biographical Note

The Montana Aeronautics Commission was established in 1945 by the State Aeronautical Regulatory Act, to supervise the aeronautics industry in the state and to encourage the development of aeronautics by supporting the building of local airports and air navigation facilities. In 1963 the Commission set up the Montana Aviation History Project to research the history of flight in Montana. The project resulted in the publication of Montana and the Sky, by Frank Wiley. In 1972 the Commission became the Montana Aeronautics Division.
