Summary
The Mike Korologos papers (1958-2005) contain correspondence, memorandums, notes, a speech, a budget, and reports concerning the creation of an archives and records management program by the Salt Lake Olympic Organizing Committee (SLOC). The bulk of the documents concern the agreement with the J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah to become the official repository for organizing committee records. Mike Korologos is a resident of Salt Lake City who formerly served as spokesperson for the Salt Lake Olympic Organizing Committee. He is currently employed by the advertising firm of Harris & Love in Salt Lake City.

Historical Note

Mike Korologos was born on 10 January 1937. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1959 with a B.S. in Communication and Journalism. He later married Myrlene McCallister. Korologos is a long-time resident of Salt Lake City and an avid sports writer for the last thirty years. He collected many old photographs and articles about early skiers and ski resorts in Utah, which demonstrates the significant presence of skiing in Utah history. In 1993, he was awarded the Ski Utah excellence award in ski journalism. Though formerly a spokesman for SLOC, he is currently employed by the Salt Lake advertising firm of Harris & Love.

Content Description

The Mike Korologos papers (1958-2005) contain documents generated by the Salt Lake Olympic Organizing Committee (SLOC) in securing and organizing the Winter Games hosted by Salt Lake City in 2002. Documents include an agreement with the University of Utah, J. Willard Marriott Library, to become the official repository of SLOC documents, correspondence, brochures, committee meeting minutes, subject files, newsclippings, magazine articles, and press releases. Additionally, a portion of the collection chronologically follows Utah's efforts in receiving the Olympics, which began as early as the 1960's.
