The Klamath Falls Order of the Elks was founded in the beginning of the 20th century and is located on Main Street. Collection contains an envelope with 12 black and white photographs, depicting the 1930s and 1940s downtown Klamath Falls.

Historical Note

Cy Haager was a photographer at East Side Pharmacy (exact location unknown).

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (B.P.O.E.) is an American fraternal order, originally founded as a social club in 1868 in New York City. The Klamath Falls Order of the Elks was founded in the beginning of the 20th century and is located on Main Street. The Elks Temple in Klamath Falls erected a temporary monument in the 1940s to those lost in World War II. Flag Day celebrations were held in downtown Klamath Falls, with large groups of service members and citizens gathering near the County Court House.

Content Description

An envelope with 12 black and white photographs, sent to the Shaw Library by Mrs. Dorothy Ebbett. A handwritten note from Mrs. Ebbett is included. It comments on the creator of the photographs: Cy Haager, former photographer at East Side Pharmacy. The photographs depict the 1930s and 1940s downtown Klamath Falls - Elk Lodge and the monument to the fallen soldiers across the street from it. Also shown are Flag Days in the same location and time frame. Some of the photographs have handwritten notes on the verso.
