Content Description

Field notes of surveys done in Shoshone County between 1909 and 1916, with some related correspondence. Holograph copy of an 1889 letter approving survey instructions for the Mullan townsite. Materials relate to Pend D'Oreille Lake, Anderson Lake, Sinclair-Bitner Tract. Also includes personal correspondence between Trask and Sr. Straughan, Pete Ondes, Phil Weber, Mr. Fred E. Butler.

Historical Note

George R. Trask was a competent mining engineer U.S. Deputy Mineral Surveyor. He was in charge to make survey of a section of state of Idaho wagon road, running from the town of Wallace in Shoshone County to the mouth of the St. Mary's River, on the St. Joseph's River, around twenty-fives miles in total. Almost the total of the survey was completed in or before July 1893. On that date, Trask and the state board of commissioners had a meeting. At this meeting, Trask and the commissioners had some differences, concluding in Trask's resignation.
