Historical Note

The League of Women Voters was created at the final convention of the National American Woman Suffrage Association in 1920. Its main purpose at the time was to teach women how to use their new voting power. Since that time, the League of Women Voters in Wyoming has played an important role in helping to clarify election issues, get out the vote and sponsor non-partisan, major party debates.

Content Description

The League of Women Voters of Wyoming records generally focus on Wyoming political contests and ballot access and fairness issues like apportionment, initiative, referendum, recall and balloting. Other papers are concerned with planning annual conventions which are held in late Spring. Most of the papers were arranged chronologically, although some were arranged by subject because they dealt with perennial concerns. Series V (Personal Reminiscences) contains material from the second president of the Wyoming League of Women Voters which discusses how the League was formed in Wyoming. This collection also includes access to the organization's archived website.
