Historical Note
Douglas Waugh was a major tourist, adventurer, and world traveler. He said that he visited every country in the world except eight. He was chief cartographer for the American Geographic Society. On one trip he visited Antarctica, Egypt, and then Arabia before returning home. He died of a heart attack in Tibet in 1994. He never wrote a book, but he left many thousands of slides which he showed in "travelogues". After he retired, he worked as an illustrator for Consolidated Edison and American Electric Power.
