Historical Note

Max H. Parkin was born on 22 July 1930 in Sandy, Utah, and married Yvonne Hobberstad in 1954. He received his B.S. in Marketing and Economics at the University of Utah in 1955 and his M.A. and Ph.D. at Brigham Young University in 1976, both in History of Religion. Parkin's interest in religious history, specifically LDS history, led to his teaching career at several LDS Church Seminaries and Institutes in Idaho and Utah from 1957 through 1995. Parkin published many articles on religious history in magazines such as BYU Studies, The Ensign, and Dialogue, and served on the editorial board for The Journal of Mormon History.
