She received her BA from Southern Illinois University in 1980 after dual-majoring in Film Production and Still Photography. She received her MFA from the University of British Columbia in 1985 in Film Production. Laurie Meeker began her career at Evergreen by teaching as an adjunct faculty member on the Evergreen – Vancouver campus from 1986 - 1987.
