Historical Note

The Seattle Shakespeare Company (SSC) was founded in 1991 as the Seattle Shakespeare Festival. The SSC's combined programs include indoor shows, regional tours, and education programs. Its mission statement from 2012 was "to open doors to classical plays for audiences of all ages, through intimate, daring productions." In 2008, the SSC merged with Wooden O Theatre, which produces free outdoor performances of classical plays every summer in parks throughout the Puget Sound region. The SSC merged with the ACT Contemporary Theater in 2025.
