Historical Note

The Barratt family was composed of Thomas H. Barratt and Dorothy Jean Moore. Together they had two children, John C. Barratt (1932-2022) and Richard H. Barratt. Thomas was a lawyer in Laramie, Wyoming, and founder of the University National Bank. John was an engineer at Banner Associates, Inc. in Laramie, Wyoming, designing buildings and structures around Laramie, such as the Garfield Street footbridge, Territorial Prison reconstruction, and the observatory on Jelm Mountain. Richard was a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, serving during the Cold War, Vietnam, and the Middle East. The Barratt’s are all alumni of the University of Wyoming.

Olga Moore Arnold (January 1, 1900-January 9, 1981) was an author, writer, actress, and reporter born in Buffalo, Wyoming and the sister of Dorothy Jean Moore Barratt. She graduated from the University of Wyoming and worked as a reporter for various news sources around Wyoming. She married a lawyer, Marine veteran, and Dean of the University of Wyoming’s Law School, Carl Arnold. In 1939, Carl was named to the legal staff of the U.S. Maritime Commission in Washington D.C. and Olga began working for the Office of War Information, beginning a career in public relations. Carl Arnold passed away in 1942 and Olga Moore Arnold passed away in 1981.
