Historical Note

William E. Barling opened the Barling Service Station and Garage in 1924 in Meeteetse, Wyoming. He then incorporated a construction business four years later in 1928. Both businesses helped Meeteese’s growth in the early and mid-twentieth century through the construction and paving of streets, curbs, and gutters, and the maintenance of mechanical equipment and cars for residents of the local area. As the construction company expanded, it began taking larger construction projects for the Wyoming State Highway Department, the U.S. Forest Service, and the U.S. Department of the Interior. Eventually, Barling also opened Barling Equipment Rental. When his son, Lloyd Barling, retired in 1979 the businesses closed their doors.
