Content Description

Papers from the office of Bruce M. Pittman. Includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, and various rules and regulations for campus life and activities. Also included are CDs containing speeches, papers regarding awards presented by the University, and additional documentation. Majority of the papers are from the 1960s and 1970s.

Historical Note

Bruce M. Pittman worked at the University of Idaho from 1973 until 2014 when he retired. In 2013, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the NASPA Foundation. He is a member of Phi Gamma Delta and in 1973 he became the Greek advisor. He became Dean of Students in 1981 and later added the title of Vice Provost. He and his team were responsible for services such as the Counseling and Testing Center, Student Recreation Center, various student activities, and more. Pitman retired in October of 2014 and the Student Union Building was renamed in his honor. In 2023, he and his wife Kathryn celebrated the 50th Wedding Anniversary, having married on 17 March 1973 in Madison, Indiana.

The Pitman Center holds many important offices for the University of Idaho, many of these papers are from different offices around the building. There are many rules and regulation papers as well as tons of clippings from newspapers that relate to Moscow.

Materials were donated by Bruce Pitman in March 2023. Additional materials were found in the Special Collections offices in 2018.
