Historical Note

L. Murray Neumann was a petroleum geologist and executive in the petroleum industry from the 1910s-1970s. He worked for the Carter Oil Company, an affiliate of the Standard Oil Company, as a Chief Geologist until he retired in 1949. After retirement he continued to work as an independent geologist in Tulsa, Oklahoma until his death in 1974. He was active in the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and played an active role in the growth of the petroleum industry and improvement of exploration technologies.
