Biographical Note

Mark Baltes was born in 1955 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He attended Boise State University and established a business called Serigraph Studio with his wife Julie in 1976. They changed the name to Landmark Impressions in 2001 and focused their efforts on creating historic markers and interpretive signage and public art installations. Baltes' postcard collection flourished during this time as they used them in their graphic work. Many of the postcard images were incorporated in the Penny Postcard mural at Boise's City Hall. Baltes started collecting postcards in the mid 1990s. He began collecting them as a way to explore his three interests - art, history, and architecture.
