Historical Note
The General Drafting Company was founded in 1909 by Otto G. Lindberg. The company’s first contract in 1911 with the American Automobile Association. General Drafting eventually became one of the “Big Three” in road map publishing, but what set the company apart was its contract as exclusive road map publisher with Standard Oil of New Jersey. This contract lasted for 60 years. In the 1990s, General Drafting was absorbed into the American Map Company.
Content Description
Collection contains road maps of various states made by the General Drafting Company for the Humble Oil Corporation; brochures concerning trucking, routes, the Civil War, history, and automobiles; and a book titled The Odyssey World Atlas from 1966.
