Content Description
The Allan T. Scholz Papers consists of Region One fisheries management reports, and a report titled Upper Columbia United Tribes Fisheries Technical Report No. 2. The Region One fisheries management report includes information on lake rehabilitation, fish planting, hatcheries, stream managements, salmon population, trout population, and rehabilitation from 1946-1998. The Upper Columbia United Tribes Technical Report No. 2 includes information on salmon total run size, hydropower related losses in the Upper Columbia River Basin, above Grand Coulee Dam, factors contributing to declines in Salmon and Steelhead runs in the Columbia, Spokane Tribe, Coeur d'Alene Tribe, Kalispel Tribe, and Kootenai Tribe of Idaho.
Biographical Note
Dr. Allan T. Scholz graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1980 having completed his Bachelor's, master's, and PhD in Zoology while in Madison. He was hired by Eastern Washington University (EWU) in 1980 and became a full professor in 1986. Scholz taught numerous courses including ichthyology, fisheries management, and marine biology. Scholz authored seven books and 142 publications about fishes in eastern Washington. He also worked on several grants studying trout and salmon populations in the Columbia Basin. His awards include EWU's Board of Trustees Medal in 1986 and the Sierra Club/Center for Environmental Law and Policy Watershed Hero Award in 2015. Scholz retired from EWU in 2015, when he was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus.
