Historical Note
Joe H. and Arlene Watt were residents of and ranchers in Sheridan, Wyoming and donors to University of Wyoming programs. Joe and his brother, Robert, established the Brothers’ Scholarship Fund after giving a number of Hereford cattle to the college of Law and Agriculture. Joe and Arlene also facilitated the Joe H. Watt Scholarship in Engineering, the Joe H. Watt Scholarships in the College of Business. Additionally, they formed the Western History Research Center, which served as the American Heritage Center’s predecessor. The Watts would eventually donate funds to the AHC, including financing towards the AHC build. Watt served as a UW trustee in the 1960s and sat on the UW Foundation Board of Directors between 1973 and 1982. Arlene Watt served as member and president of the Wyoming and National Cow-Belles, groups of women involved in the livestock industry.
