Historical Background

Excursion Inlet was originally a native village. During World War II it was used as a prisoner of war camp and a strategic base for the Aleutian Campaign. It was to be a logistics base for the Army's efforts to liberate the Aleutian Islands from their Japanese invaders. It also had a fishing cannery. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 12 people.
