Historical Note

Jack Newell (PhD. Ohio State University, 1972) held concurrent appointments in the Graduate School of Education and central administration for more than fifteen years (Professor of Educational Administration, 1974-1998; Dean of Student Affairs, 1974-1978; and Director and Dean of Liberal Education, 1974-1990). The bulk of the material in this collection is related more or less directly to his professional activities and administrative duties and responsibilities, however a portion records Dr. Newell's involvement in church and community affairs (e.g., his work as editor of the Mormon journal "Dialogue" and activities on behalf of Deep Springs College in California). Newell retired from the University after 24 years of service on December 31, 1998.
