Biographical Note

Philo Taylor Farnsworth was educator and school superintendent in Salt Lake City, Utah. He also was involved in the Mahanain Foundation, a religious education group, and was deeply involved in theosophy and the workings of the foundation.

As a part of his professional career Farnsworth worked as a school teacher, and as an assitant superintendent and superintendent of the Granite School District from July 1, 1939 to July 1, 1944. Later he would work on the Welfare Board for Utah.

He is also the cousin of Philo Taylor Farnsworth (1906-1971) who was credited with inventing the television.

Content Description

The Philo T. Farnsworth papers (1903-1983) contains biographical material, financial records, news clippings, speeches, articles, books, research notes, correspondence and awards.

The papers are divided into 2 sections. The first section (box 1) is a collection of papers regarding Farnsworth's professional and academic career, along with personal papers he had. The second section contains theosophical papers written primarily by George Chainey, but with some papers written by Farnsworth and other authors. The second section is mostly theosophy organized by subject (boxes 2-5) or is a theosophical exegesis of the Bible (boxes 6-9).
