Historical NoteReturn to Top

Edmund Kugler Storms (1931-) is a nuclear chemist who worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for 32 years before retiring in 1991. Storms was born in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania on 22 April 1931. He earned his B.S. in Chemistry from Pennsylvania State University in 1953; M.S. in Radiochemistry from Washington University in 1957; and Ph.D. in Radiochemistry from Washington University in 1958. At LANL, Storms' studies include but not limited to vaporization behavior of refractory materials; super conductivity; chemistry of high-temperature nuclear fuel; and cold fusion, energy and tritium production. After retiring from LANL, Storms collaborated with Brian Scanlan to form a company called Kiva Labs where they explored evidence of cold fusion from 2007-2012.

Storms has published over a hundred journal articles, several books, and two patents. In 2002, Jed Rothwell and Storms started an online library, A library of papers about cold fusion, which contains Storms' publication collection.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

Series 1: Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This series consists primarily of materials related to Storms' research on cold fusion during his final years at LAN where he led one of two LANL teams that had success in replicating LENR. Included are clippings, data, memorandums, presentations, and reports related to cold fusion. The contents found in box 5, folders 5-6 are Storms' professional materials, previously contained in a binder, before the discovery of cold fusion. Note: the printouts in this series are related to Storms research at LANL and were produced in 2016.

Series 2: Independent Investigation. This series consist of materials related to Storms' research on cold fusion after his retirement from LANL. During this period, he consulted with LANL and provided testimony to the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation in 1993. The memorandums in this series overlap with the memorandums in the first series. The correspondence include e-mails and faxes from the following:

  • J. O'M. (John O'M.) Bockris, 1923-2013
  • Jed Rothwell
  • Hal Fox, 1923-2012

Enclosed with the correspondence are articles, papers, printed materials, and research materials. The financial records in this series are primarily receipts for "Energy K. Systems." The papers include published and unpublished writings. Additional writings by Storms were compiled in five Pendaflex folders found in boxes 17-18.

Series 3: ENECO was formerly known as "Future Energy Applied Technology, Inc." was a lab formed in Salt Lake City, Utah to secure patents on low-energy nuclear reactions (LENR). During this period, while Storms served on the Board of Directors, he attended and presented at conferences and wrote papers concerning cold fusion.

Series 4: Lattice Energy. Storms conducted independent evaluations of LENR as a Senior Scientist for Lew Larson of Lattice Energy from 2000-2006. This series primarily consists of data and progress reports generated by Princeton Gamma-Tech, Inc. related to Pd foil, cylinder, dot, and Seebeck. He also attended and presented at conferences and wrote papers. Included is the agreement with Lattice Energy in 2004.

Series 5: Kiva Labs. This series was a collaboration between Brian Scanlan and Storms from 2007-2012. During this period, Storms published his first book entitled "The science of low energy nuclear reactions." Papers and research conducted jointly with Scanlan occurred during this period, including materials related to glow discharge. Note: the reports produced during this time also were generated by Princeton Gamma-Tech, Inc. and may belong in this series or the previous: Lattice Energy.

Series 6: University of Texas at Austin. Energy Institute. This series consists of materials related to the university's documentation of Storms' research from 2016-2018. This project was completed in several states: Stage 1, Information collection; Stage 2, Organization; and Stage 3, Documentation. The documentation found in box 33, folder 5 was used as a rough guide for the arrangement of Storms' papers.

Series 7: Digital Media. Lastly, the digital media found in this series are restricted until reformatted. Items include compact discs, floppy disks, and a hard drive.
