Content Description
The collection consists of a scrapbook, compiled by Fleet Week Committee Chair C. T. Haas and possibly other committee members, that documents the 1937 Fleet Week in Portland, Oregon, and was presented to Vice Admiral W. T. Tarrant on July 27, 1937. The bulk of the scrapbook's contents are newspaper clippings about the event, including an envelope of clippings that had been deemed too large to glue to the scrapbook's pages. Other materials in the scrapbook include invitations to Fleet Week events, a souvenir program, a poster, ribbons, stationery, and a statement by Missouri Governor Lloyd C. Stark complimenting the naval review and parade. There are handwritten inscriptions from Haas to Tarrant on the first page and back inside cover of the scrapbook. The inscription on the inside back cover expresses hope that Tarrant will return to Portland in the future and wishes him a happy upcoming birthday.
