Ellis J. McClanahan (d. 1964), a native of Tacoma, Washingon, joined Standard Oil Company of California in 1912 and held various sales executive positions, among them manager of the Hawaiian sales district, general sales manager, and president of Standard Stations, Inc. His area of expertise was marketing. He was elected a vice-president of Standard in 1943 and a director in 1950. In the early 1950s, he became chairman of the board for several of Standard's subsidiary companies.
