Biographical Note

Professor Kirschner has an experience of more than forty years of teaching and research in the field of Biochemistry and physiology. He got his Ph.D. degree in Physiology from the University of Wisconsin in 1951, worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Copenhagen for two years. From 1953 on, he has worked in WSU as professor of physiology. He is well known in his field and has published very frequently (more than 70 articles and many chapters of textbooks). He has also given lectures at various universities in the United States as well as many European countries. He was the chairman of the Department of Zoology for some time, and served on various committees at other times. Professor Kirschner retired from WSU in 1993.

Arrangement

The papers are divided into 10 series based roughly on the original themes: 1, Correspondence; 2, Reviews and Recommendations; 3, Racism (records of his work as chairman of the Human Relations Committee); 4, Visiting Lectures (Lectures given at WSU by visiting professors); 5, Committees (Various committees Professor Kirschner served on); 6, Invited Talks, Symposia (given or attended by Professor Kirschner); 7, Professional Societies; 8, Technical Personal; 9, Miscellaneous; 10, Lectures and Papers. Within each series, the files are arranged as much as possible in alphabetical order according to the file titles which are Professor Kirschner's original titles. Series 1 has three alphabetical orders: by names under Colleagues; by names alone; by topics.

Acquisition Information

The papers of Leonard Kirschner, Professor of Zoology at Washington State University, were donated to the university libraries in 1996 by Professor Kirschner (accession number MS96-21).
