Historical Note

In 1914, Marcellus area farmers formed the Marcellus Farmers' Elevator Company as a farmers' cooperative enterprise. The company stored and sold local grain, and also stocked and sold everything from fence posts and gasoline to farm implements, and provided credit to farmers. In 1927, the company built a grain elevator, which it expanded in the 1950's. The business was sold to a larger warehouse firm in the 1960s.
