Biographical Note

Seymour Samuel Cook was an elected representative (October 1,1889) from Vancouver, Clark County. Cook was born on November 3, 1832 in Trumbull County, Ohio, son of Amos Z. Cook and Ester Tomms. He lived in Wisconsin, Iowa and Missouri. Cook went to California in March 1875 to 1880, where he booked passage to Portland, Oregon. He was a highly skilled stone and brick mason and was responsible for paving Front Street in Portland.

Collection of 122 cabinet card photographs (16.5 cm x 10.7 cm) of portraits of the first Washington State Legislature and related staff officers, circa 1880-1891. Also includes photographs of members of Seymour Samuel Cook's extended family, circa 1865-1895, specifically the Roberts family and the Kratz family from Missouri, Washington, Pennsylvania, and Iowa, as well as a few unidentified portraits.
